Our Commitment to Privacy
CACDS employees hold privacy of personal information to be of the utmost importance and share a common commitment to safeguarding personal information according to privacy laws such as the Canadian federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and corresponding Canadian provincial privacy legislation.
This commitment to privacy is a formal statement of our mission to maintain the privacy of personal information on behalf of our members. We embrace the 10 Universal Privacy Principles as noted in the Canadian Standards Association Model Code for the Protection of Personal Information and as incorporated in privacy legislation:
Accountability: To ensure ongoing accountability for privacy, CACDS has designated a Chief Privacy Officer responsible for openness in making available privacy policies, providing an avenue for individuals to request access to their contact information, and providing a mechanism for individuals to challenge privacy practices.
CACDS has established an Executive Privacy Committee to implement privacy awareness across all departments and services.
Identifying purpose: Purposes for which personal information is to be used, disclosed, transmitted, or reported by CACDS are to be identified.
Consent: As an association, we work with our members to identify all uses and disclosures of personal information. Information found on a business card is not considered personal. When a member uses their personal phone number or address for business purposes, it is no longer considered personal information.
Limiting collection: Information collected and stored by CACDS is to be limited to the minimum amount necessary to accomplish the intended purpose.
Limiting use, disclosure and retention of personal information: When personal information must be discussed or otherwise shared with other CACDS employees, it must be on a need to know basis within the course of work.
Accuracy: CACDS relies on our members to ensure that their contact information is accurate and up to date. Individuals are afforded the right to access and amend their information, as well as receive an accounting of disclosures as required by law.
Safeguards: CACDS conducts ongoing security assessments of our administrative, physical, and technical safeguards regarding the privacy of personal information in any form - electronic or paper - in our possession.
Privacy Training: CACDS conducts ongoing workplace privacy training reinforcing privacy responsibilities.
